These delicate bites are simple and easy to make, but are so rich in taste that they can be served at the finest of dinners.

These smoked salmon crisps are suitable for outdoor BBQ events, weddings and even cocktail parties that serve nothing but appetizers.

Tastefully selected to be served as an amuse bouche because they can be handed from a platter as guests arrive for any event. Simply a tantalizing way to whet a guests appetite as they await for the event to begin.

If you find that the cream has too much of a spicy zing, then you can eliminate the cayenne pepper so that the flavor of the dill and ginger can be more prominent.

These are best served with a fine glass of crisp cool champagne.  For an extra elegant touch, one could serve these with skewered strawberries coated with a succulent whipped cream spread.

These also make a great snack for most any occasion, including wedding receptions and Superbowl parties.

If one were to wish to enjoy these while on a picnic, then the salmon and spread should be placed in a covered dish and put in a cooler of ice to keep them cool.  The crackers should not be assembled until ready to serve.  Combine these with some fresh fruit and fine cheeses, with a nice Chardonnay and  you’ll enjoy a picnic “for two” that will be very dear indeed.  This is a great way to have a tiny “getaway” from life’s hustle and bustle.

Terrific Party Tip!

Assemble a platter of these delightful crisps on a large oval tray.  They should be assembled on the outer edges of the tray so that guests can easily grab one when they wish to enjoy a morsel.

Create a circle of small cheese cubes (1/2″ squares) in a circle towards the inside of the tray.  Using a toothpick, one can attach a Greek olive slice atop of the cheese for an added zing that is sure to please.

On the inner most parts of the platter, you will want to place a small bowl of cherries with stems.

Place this platter on your serving table, and arrange some nice glasses of chilled champagne to the right of the platter, so that guests can enjoy a “mini morsel” with a tiny taste of many foods from several food groups.

To save space, you can also use a 3-tier serving platter to to keep all of the tasty treats separated yet still neatly arranged and easily accessible for your guests to grab.

These are best served as guests arrive, so that they remain chilled and fresh.  If they can not be served within 15 minutes, then it’s best to assemble as they are needed to ensure that the crackers do not become soggy.

What I love to do, when I am hosting a fine dining event, is I will hire one single person to stand at the “appetizers” table so that the wine and champagne can be poured as the guests arrive, and so that fragile appetizers such as these can be assembled throughout the event.

If you do not wish to hire someone, then you can of course handle these tasks yourself by simply staying near enough the serving table so that you can keep an eye on it, so that you can restock it quickly as needed.

  • 10 Whole Wheat Crackers
  • 1/2 Pound Smoked Salmon Slice into very thin slices.
  • 4 Ounces Cream Cheese
  • 1 Tablespoon Dill Fresh from the garden if possible.
  • 1 Tablespoon Heavy Whipping Cream
  • 1 Tablespoon Horseradish
  • 10 Slivers Ginger Sliced very thin.
  • 1/4 Teaspoon Cayenne Pepper
  1. Mix cream cheese, dill, cream, horseradish and cayenne pepper in a bowl. Blend thoroughly.
  2. Place the cream cheese spread in the refrigerator for one hour to chill thoroughly before serving.
  3. Arrange crackers on a platter.
  4. Place a slice of ginger on top of each of the crackers, then add one tablespoon of the cream cheese mixture. Roll the salmon slices into small, flat rolls and place this on top of the cream mixture. If desired, spear with a toothpick to hold all layers together.
